What Defines a Micro Part?
True micro parts are fractions of a
pellet, weigh fractions of a gram, have tolerances of
0.00010.0002" (0.0020.005mm), and have geometry seen only by the
use of a microscope. In fact, the smallest molded component in the
world is manufactured by MTD and is 520 parts per single plastic
pellet in size! The component solutions MTD makes possible are
beyond micro-approaching the "nano" level, for example, here are
just some dimensions of our micromolded components:
-
Microfluidic slots to 0.5 micron
(0.000019")
-
Total part length of 0.060" (1.5mm)
-
Gate diameters as low as 0.002"
(0.05mm)
-
Core pins of 0.0027" (0.068mm)
diameter
-
Wall thickness as low as 0.0015"
(0.04mm)
-
Cavity and Core TIR less than
0.0001" (0.003mm)
-
Overall part weight of 0.00012 grams
Micromolded parts can be micro in
size but also be micro features in larger parts that require the
same level of tooling tolerances for correspondingly tolerances
held in plastic. These microscopic parts are used in medical
devices such as catheter components, micro sensors, and resorbable
implants. Newly emerging markets such as biomedical, MEMS,
electronics, microfluidics, and nanotechnology are growth
industries for micromolding.
We pride ourselves in helping you
design the best possible micromolding solution for your particular
application.
